چکیده

Using a simple on-the-spot approximation, we explore the parameter range in the (log(R), log(ne)) plane for which maser action in atomic hydrogen is present and briefly discuss how the borderlines of this region of strong population inversion arise. In particular we address the influence of radiative transfer on the population structure. We find that in normal HII regions no strong maser activity occurs, while for ultra compact HII regions in a certain parameter range strong hydrogen masers should be found. Our fit to the available observational data for MWC 349 leads to a density estimate that is compatible with previous work (Thum & Greve 1997). Furthermore, we derive for the first time a reasonable representation of the variation of the flux ratio of Hnβ and Hnα lines measured towards MWC 349.

Radiative heat transfer: many-body effects

Heat transfer by electromagnetic radiation is one of the common methods of energy transfer between objects. Using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, we have studied the effect of particle arrangement in the transmission of radiative heat in many-body systems. In order to show the effect of the structure morphology on the collective properties, the radiative heat transfer is studied and the re...

Cosmological hydrogen recombination: The effect of extremely high-n states

Calculations of cosmological hydrogen recombination are vital for the extraction of cosmological parameters from cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations, and for imposing constraints to inflation and reionization. The Planck mission and future experiments will make high precision measurements of CMB anisotropies at angular scales as small as ‘ 2500, necessitating a calculation of recombi...

DYNAMICS OF PRIMORDIAL HYDROGEN RECOMBINATION WITH ALLOWANCE FOR A RECOIL FOR SCATTERING IN THE Ly-α LINE

It is shown that taking into account a recoil for radiation scattering in the Lyα line can lead to a noticable acceleration of primordial hydrogen recombination. Thus for ΛCDM model a decrease of ionization degree exceeds 1% for redshifts z in a range 800 – 1050 achieving ≈ 1.3% at z = 900. Corresponding corrections to the cosmic microwave background power spectra can achieve 1.1% for TT spectr...

On the Hydrogen Recombination Time in Type II Supernova Atmospheres

NLTE radiative transfer calculations of differentially expanding supernovae atmospheres are computationally intensive and are almost universally performed in time-independent snapshot mode, where both the radiative transfer problem and the rate equations are solved assuming the steady-state approximation. The validity of the steadystate approximation in the rate equations has recently been ques...

DYNAMICS OF THE PRIMORDIAL HYDROGEN AND HELIUM (HeI) RECOMBINATION IN THE UNIVERSE

Abstract. The dependences on z of fractional number densities of H+ and He+ ions are calculated with a proper allowance for two-photon decays of upper levels of hydrogen and parahelium and radiative transfer in intercombination line 2 P1 ↔ 1 S0 of helium. It is shown that for hydrogen this gives corrections for a degree of ionization in no more than a few percents but for helium this leads to a...
